Buxton Festival aims to
build its audience from among the local community and to
extend opportunities for participation in the arts across
the High Peak and Derbyshire. In recent years we have
mounted projects which have involved many thousands of local
people in creative arts activity. The Festival believes in
involving as many different people as possible, therefore
all projects are free to participants.
Opera represents a synthesis of a range of artistic
disciplines including visual arts, drama, dance and of
course music. Through its education programme and outreach
activities, the Festival aims to bring all these aspects to
a wide cross-section of the local population in an enjoyable
way, to remove the real and imagined boundaries, and to
provide a platform for artistic expression within the
community.
Our objectives in expanding this
programme are:
