The Fair Maid of Perth
The Fair Maid of Perth was Bizet’s only opera to receive widespread
acclaim when first performed. The sound would in general, and the gypsy
character of Mab in particular, foreshadow the success of Carmen,
vividly embracing the passionate emotion and torments inflicted by love
and jealousy.
