Book Festival Manager
Contract: Temporary maternity cover, 3 days a week in May and June, 6 days a week in July

Buxton International Festival is looking for a suitable candidate to act as Book Festival Manager from May – July 2017. This is a maternity cover which is three days a week in May and June, increasing to 6 days a week in July. This is a key role within our Festival management team. The Festival runs from 7 – 23rd July. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of our popular Book Festival including to:
- Liaise with authors and publishers
- Arrange author accommodation, travel and hospitality
- Create detailed itineraries for each author’s visit to the Festival
- Liaise with our bookseller (Waterstones) regarding book sales and signings at book events
- Liaise with the Festival’s venue teams (front of house and technical) all book events to ensure events run smoothly for audience and authors
- Be the main event manager at all book events
- Meet and greet authors at the Festival and work with our support teams and volunteers to ensure authors are looked after to a high standard
- Write to authors and publishers to thank them after the event
- Organise invoicing/payment to authors/publishers after the event
- Work with the Festival management team on a debrief and evaluation of the event
We are looking for an organised event manager, who will confidently and calmly lead a team of staff and volunteers to manager a top-quality book festival. The ideal candidate will have excellent administration skills, being able to ensure that all the small details of each event are planned for in advance, to ensure that each book talk is delivered smoothly for our authors and audiences. The right person will have excellent commination skills, being confident talking to authors, politicians, VIPs, Festival volunteers, venue teams and audience members. Our Book Festival Manager will need to be able to work calmly in a very busy, sometimes stressful environment, thriving from the long, busy days of a packed festival programme.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Communications Co-ordinator to join the team at the Buxton International Festival, this newly-created role will support the Press and Marketing staff at the Festival. The role involves helping to maintain the Festival’s internal communications and build on its external relationships, as well as assisting the Press and Media consultant and looking after Festival group bookings.

The Development Director will devise and implement an income generation strategy that will deliver objectives in line with the organisation’s strategic plan. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of the company’s fundraising programmes: in corporate sponsorship; trusts and foundations; individual giving and legacies.
Although an arts background is not essential, a keen interest in the sector and an ability to articulate an enthusiasm for the company’s work and aspirations is crucial. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and professional fundraiser with a commitment to achieving targets and playing a leading role in the company’s strategic development.
